CORALVILLE, Iowa — The Central Arkansas volleyball team (0-10) lost to Iowa (10-3) 3-0 (12-25, 15-25, 14-25) in their final non-conference match on Sunday at Xtream Arena.
Following the match,
Ella Chaney was selected to the 2026 Kwik Star Klassic All-Tournament Team for her performance over the weekend. Chaney notched 33 kills on the weekend, hitting .360, adding 26 digs, six total blocks and two aces. The redshirt-junior recorded a double-double on Friday against Texas Tech with a career high 14 kills and 12 digs.
Iowa would not allow the Sugar Bears to gain any momentum after early sideouts in the opening set, as the Hawkeyes built an 8-3 lead and later stretched the margin to 16-7.
Sarah Carnathan, Chaney and
McKinzee Haas supplied kills to stop Iowa scoring stretches, and
Tatelyn Brandsma paired with
Karlyn Frazier on a block early in the set. Iowa closed the set 25-12, with Carnathan recording Central Arkansas' final point on a kill before Iowa answered with the set-ending kill.
Central Arkansas pulled even at 2-2 on
Nicole Sargent's kill in the second set, but Iowa answered with a 5-1 scoring run to keep the Sugar Bears at bay. Haas and Chaney each provided three kills for Central Arkansas, while Brandsma assisted several of attacks. Iowa closed the set with four-straight points to win the set 25-15.
Central Arkansas opened the third set with kills by Haas and Carnathan, but Iowa responded with a 7-1 scoring run to take a 7-3 lead. The Sugar Bears got later points from a Chaney kill, a
Greyson Button kill and blocks involving Frazier, Brandsma, Button and Chaney, but Iowa kept separation and won the set 25-14, and the match 3-0.
