Bears Fall to Redhawks in Missouri

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.- Central Arkansas (2-2, 0-1) lost to Southeast Missouri (2-2, 0-0) 27-9 on Saturday. Central Arkansas was held out of the end zone, with all nine points coming on three field goals.

Central Arkansas fell behind immediately when Franklin Delk's opening kickoff was returned 99 yards for a Southeast Missouri touchdown, but later put together a scoring drive capped by Caleb Jones' 37-yard field goal to make it 7-3 with 3:56 left in the first quarter. Central Arkansas produced all six of its first downs on the ground and rushed for 64 yards in the quarter, including a 13-yard run by Donovyn Omolo and an 11-yard run by Chapman McKown on the field-goal drive. Southeast Missouri reached the Central Arkansas 9 before the quarter ended, with Central Arkansas trailing 7-3.

Central Arkansas held Southeast Missouri scoreless in the second quarter and added to its total when Caleb Jones made a 46-yard field goal at 7:15, with the scoreboard showing Southeast Missouri ahead 7-6. Central Arkansas controlled possession for 10:46 in the quarter and converted three of five third downs, while its defense added three pass breakups and three quarterback hurries. The final drive reached the Southeast Missouri 25 on Omolo's 26-yard completion to Dakarai Anderson as time expired.

Central Arkansas was held scoreless in the third quarter, producing one first down and 21 yards on three possessions. The defense kept Southeast Missouri off the board after its first drive with Trevion Traylor's hurry before a missed 50-yard field goal, but Justin Keller's 31-yard field goal later put Central Arkansas behind 10-6 with 1:31 left. Central Arkansas's next snap was intercepted, and Southeast Missouri reached the UCA 5 before the quarter ended.

After Southeast Missouri opened the fourth quarter with a touchdown, Central Arkansas answered with its only points of the quarter, moving from its 29 to the Southeast Missouri 19 before Caleb Jones made a 37-yard field goal to make it 17-9. Omolo had a 43-yard run and a 15-yard completion to Dakarai Anderson on the drive, but Central Arkansas's next two possessions ended on downs and with an interception. Southeast Missouri added a field goal and a touchdown later in the quarter, and Central Arkansas fell 27-9.
