TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- Central Arkansas (2-3, 0-1) lost to Florida State (2-2, 0-1) 34-7 on Saturday in Doak Campbell Stadium on Bobby Bowden Field.
The Bears were held scoreless in the first quarter, with their opening possession reaching the Florida State 43 before a fourth-down incompletion. Florida State scored on its first two drives to build a 14-0 lead, while the Bears went 0-for-3 on third down and 0-for-1 on fourth down. The Bears held the ball for 10:01 and ended their final possession of the quarter with
Wyatt Salter's 47-yard punt to the Florida State 6.
The Bears put together their scoring response late in the second quarter, going 75 yards in 13 plays, finishing with
Jalen Washington's 2-yard touchdown run and
Caleb Jones' extra point to make it 24-7 with 1:40 left. The drive stayed alive when
Que Tillman converted fourth-and-1 at the Florida State 42.
Ashtyn Williams intercepted a Florida State pass at the Bears 24 in the final minute, and the Bears went into halftime trailing 24-7.
The Bears opened the third quarter with a nine-play, 38-yard drive that reached the Florida State 30, but a holding penalty and a tackle for loss pushed the possession back before Salter's punt. The Bears totaled four first downs, while Florida State added a touchdown and a field goal to make it 34-7 by the end of the quarter.
The Bears held the ball for 11:31 of the fourth quarter and put together a 20-play, 73-yard drive from their own 4 to the Florida State 23, but the possession ended on downs with 16 seconds left.
Donovyn Omolo converted a fourth-and-4 with a 6-yard completion to
Ty Durham at the Florida State 29 during the drive. The quarter was scoreless, and the Bears fell 34-7.
