HONOLULU — The Central Arkansas volleyball team (0-7) lost its match to Hawaii (6-2) 3-0 on Friday, falling by set scores of 25-14, 25-20 and 28-26. Central Arkansas was held to 29 kills and a .079 hitting percentage, while Hawaii totaled 47 kills and hit .248.
Hawaii built a sizeable lead in the first set, including a 4-0 run to go up nine, 20-11.
Tatelyn Brandsma stopped that run with a kill assisted by
Ella Chaney, and
Kennady Martindale later added a kill from Brandsma for Central Arkansas' final point of the set. Hawaii closed the first set 25-14.
Central Arkansas twice worked back into the lead in the second set, first using
McKinzee Haas' serve to string together four straight points and turn an 8-5 deficit into a 9-8 lead. After Hawaii went back ahead, Central Arkansas tied it on Brandsma's ace and moved in front 18-15 with
Cameron McDaniel serving, including a
McKinzee Haas-
Annie Hopkins block. Hawaii answered with seven straight points and took the set 25-20.
Central Arkansas pushed Hawaii beyond 25 in the third set and had a 24-23 edge after
Greyson Button's kill, but Hawaii answered moved ahead 26-25. Haas tied it at 26-26 with a kill before Hawaii scored the final two points to take the set, 28-26, and the match 3-0.

The Sugar Bears will continue their barnstorming tour with a three-game stop in Iowa City next weekend at the Kwik Star Klassic. Central Arkansas will take on West Florida on Friday at 3 p.m., Texas Tech on Saturday at noon, and the host Iowa on Sunday at 1 p.m.
