Sugar Bears Drop Match to Hawaii

HONOLULU — Central Arkansas (0-6) lost its match to Hawaii (5-2) 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-18) on Thursday. Central Arkansas finished with 23 kills and a .027 hitting percentage, while Hawaii totaled 47 kills and hit .288.
 
The Sugar Bears opened the match with a Kennady Martindale kill, assisted Cameron McDaniel for a 1-0 lead, but Hawaii answered and built a commanding lead. Nicole Sargent and Greyson Button each added late kills, while Sarah Carnathan had a block and a kill as Central Arkansas tried to respond, before dropping the first set 25-12.
 
In the second set, Central Arkansas fought back from a 10-3 deficit, getting to 13-11 behind kills from Tatelyn Brandsma, Carnathan and Martindale. Central Arkansas made another push from 18-12 to 18-16, with Carnathan putting down three-straight kills and McKinzee Haas adding a service ace. Hawaii responded with a 7-1 run to take the set 25-17.
 
Back-to-back Trinity Hamilton service aces gave Central Arkansas a 2-0 lead to open the third set, but Hawaii answered with a scoring 5-0 to move in front 5-2. The Sugar Bears stormed back to tie the set at 5-5 behind two Karlyn Frazier kills and a Hawaii attack error, and the set was even again at 8-8. Hawaii separated from there and closed out the set 25-18, and won the match 3-0.
