Trio of Bears Earn Performer of the Week Awards

CONWAY, Ark. – Throwers dominated Performer of the Week awards for the Central Arkansas track and field teams after completing the final regular season meet of the year last weekend. Jaden Schneeberger and Joia Perry were recognized by the ASUN as men's and women's Field Performers of the Week, and Eli Jones earned a selection as Co-Freshman Performer of the Week.

For Schneeberger, his second Field Performer of the Week designation of the season comes after a 1st place finish in the shot put and a 2nd place finish in the hammer throw events at the Music City Challenge. Schneeberger's throw of 18.09 meters (59-04.25) in the shot put earned the gold by nearly five feet, beating out the other 24 competitors in the event. In the hammer throw, the senior's throw of 62.88 meters (206-03) was good for 2nd place out of 24 total competitors.

Eli Jones earned his first ASUN weekly honor as Co-Freshman Performer of the Week after 3rd place finishes in both the discus and shot put events, on top of competing in the hammer throw. In the discus, Jones earned the bronze with a 47.93-meter (157-03) throw, an event in which he leads the ASUN this season. In the shot put event, Jones used a 16.40-meter (53-09.75) toss to finish 3rd, moving up to 4th overall on the ASUN leaderboard this season and 2nd among ASUN freshmen. The freshman also took an 18th place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 44.13 meters (144-09).

Perry's selection comes after an incredible performance in the invite section of the women's hammer throw at the Music City Challenge. Perry finished 3rd in the event, breaking her own school record with a throw of 63.06 meters (206-11). The throw topped the ASUN leaderboard, marked at 16th in the NCAA West Region, and 26th overall in the nation.

The Bears have the week off this week, before traveling to the ASUN Outdoor Championship meet in Jacksonville, Fla., beginning on May 14.
