CONWAY, Ark. — Central Arkansas (16-17, 5-7) secured a 9–6 victory over the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (15-20, 8-4) on Tuesday night at Bear Stadium. An eight-run explosion in the seventh inning propelled the Bears to the win.
Central Arkansas took an early lead in the first inning when
Jagger Schattle homered to right field, giving the team a 1–0 advantage. The score remained 1–0 through the fifth inning.
In the sixth inning, Arkansas Pine Bluff scored twice to take a 2–1 lead. Lazaro Alvarado and Vinny Saumell each singled, and both scored on subsequent plays. The visitors led 2–1 after the top of the sixth.
The Bears responded decisively in the seventh inning.
Zane Denton doubled, and
Zeb Allen and
Nate Negre followed with singles, loading the bases. Schattle walked to bring in a run, and
Jack Runsick walked for another RBI.
Parker Gwyn reached on an error, allowing another run to score.
Keaton Laidley walked to bring in a fourth run, and
Sam Reynolds hit a double to clear the bases, bringing the total to eight runs in the inning. Central Arkansas led 9–3 through seven innings.
Arkansas Pine Bluff attempted a comeback in the ninth inning, scoring three runs. Blake Coleman singled and eventually scored on a hit by Trinidad De la Garza, while two more scored on a walk and a sacrifice fly. The rally ended as the Bears secured the win.
Jacob Pannell delivered a solid performance for the Bears, pitching 5 innings with only 1 earned run allowed and striking out 3 batters.
Silas Cowgill surrendering 2 earned runs on 5 hits in 1 2/3 innings of work.
Jake Jones effectively closed out the eighth and went 1 1/3 innings, allowing no hits and striking out 3 while earning the win.
