LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Central Arkansas (25-19, 12-8) secured another decisive victory over Bellarmine University (17-25, 9-11), winning 14-7 on Saturday at Knights Field.
Central Arkansas tallied 18 hits, with three home runs including back to back home runs by
Mark Ross and
Casey Shipley and five doubles, while Bellarmine committed four errors in the game.
In the second inning, the Bears broke the game open. Ross doubled down the right field line, followed by Shipley's RBI double to left center, scoring Ross.
Zane Denton walked, and
Zeb Allen delivered an RBI double, bringing home Shipley.
Nate Negre's triple to right center brought in two more runs, and
Jagger Schattle doubled to left field, scoring Negre. Central Arkansas led 5-0 at the end of the second inning.
The Bears added to their lead in the third inning.
Keaton Laidley singled and scored on a single by Shipley, with the run being unearned due to a fielding error. Ross later scored on a wild pitch, extending the lead to 7-0 through three innings.
Bellarmine scored its first run in the fourth inning with an RBI double from Eli Watson, but Central Arkansas maintained a 7-1 lead.
In the fifth inning, Bellarmine closed the gap with two runs after RBI ground outs by Cole Huett and AJ Swader. The score tightened to 7-3.
Bellarmine added another run in the sixth inning through a sacrifice fly by Connor Pawlowski, cutting the deficit to 7-4.
The seventh inning saw the Bears extend their lead again. Ross hit a three-run homer, and Shipley followed with a solo homer, pushing the score to 11-4. Bellarmine responded with two unearned runs, making it 11-6.
In the eighth, Laidley scored on a single by
Jack Runsick, further increasing Central Arkansas's lead to 12-6.
Bellarmine added one more run in the eighth inning, but Central Arkansas maintained its advantage at 12-7.
In the ninth inning, Allen hit a two-run homer, sealing the victory for the Bears 14-7.
Jake Jones started for Central Arkansas and delivered 5 innings, allowing 4 runs, with 3 earned, on 4 hits while striking out 2 and walking 2. He threw a total of 95 pitches, 63 of which were strikes, earning the win for the Bears.
Silas Cowgill worked 2 innings, surrendering 2 runs on 2 hits, striking out 2, and hitting one batter.
Kannon Nesslage closed the game with 2 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 2 hits and recording 3 strikeouts.
