LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Central Arkansas (24-19, 11-8) secured a commanding victory over Bellarmine University (17-24, 9-10) with a final score of 13-2 on Friday at Knights Field.
Central Arkansas tallied 14 hits and launched a collective offensive effort, highlighted by a five-run second inning and another five-run fourth inning.
Zeb Allen hit his 15th home run of the season to set the UCA single season home run record. Allen now holds the UCA single season and career home run records.
In the second inning,
Keaton Laidley singled and advanced on an error, setting up
Mark Ross for an RBI single.
Jagger Schattle doubled through the right side, driving in two more runs for a total of five in the inning. The Bears led 5-0.
The fourth inning saw another surge as
Casey Shipley was hit by a pitch, eventually scoring on
Nate Negre's RBI single.
Zeb Allen and Schattle also crossed home plate after Laidley delivered a double to left center, adding five more runs to extend the lead to 10-0.
In the fifth inning,
Zane Denton tripled and scored on Allen's sacrifice fly, pushing the score to 11-0. The Knights managed to get on the board in the seventh inning with two runs driven in by Landon Akers, making it 11-2.
Allen capped off the scoring for the Bears with his record breaking, two-run homer in the eighth inning. The final score was 13-2 in favor of the Bears.
Denver Hamilton delivered a strong performance for the Bears, pitching 7 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 7 hits while striking out 5 batters. He maintained control by issuing only 1 walk and threw 108 pitches, of which 65 were strikes, securing his seventh win of the season without a loss.
JB Williams provided relief, pitching 1 inning with 1 walk and 1 strikeout.
