Three Bears Receive Individual Honors

Conway, Ark.- The ASUN released the Women's Golf post season awards today. The Bears had three athletes named to various awards. Aletheas Page Gaccion was named Freshman of the Year, 2nd team All-ASUN and to the All-ASUN Freshman team. Gudrun Thorsteinsdottir was named to the All-ASUN 3rd team. While Valeria Ramirez was selected as an ASUN Scholar Athlete. 

The Bears had a successful 2025-26 season propelling Gaccion, Thorsteinsdottir and Ramirez to be honored with awards. The highlights from the season included a second place finish at the Puerto Rico Iguana Invitational in March, the top team finish of the season, a sixth place finish at the Magnolia Collegiate, fifth at the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational, third at both the Judson and the Diamante Intercollegiate, fifth at the Red Raider Invitational and a fourth place finish at the ASUN Championship.

Gaccion, a freshman from Cagayan do Pro City, Philippines had one of the best freshman seasons in Central Arkansas women's golf history. She had a 73.78 scoring average for the season and finished tenth overall at the ASUN Championship. She won the Puerto Rico Iguana Invitational after making a tap in birdie in a playoff. She had two eighth place finishes, at the Diamante Intercollegiate and Magnolia Collegiate. Was fifteenth at the ULM Invitational and The Judson and eighteenth at the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational. She also had 2-0-1 record in the match play event the Bears played in this season. 

Head Coach Summar Roachell had this to say about Gaccion and her fantastic Freshman season. " I couldn't be more proud of Ally and all that she has accomplished this season. This award says everything about her talent, consistency, mindset and work ethic. Ally made an immediate impact on our team when she stepped on campus and immediately elevated everyone around her. This was an incredibly special season for her but it's only the beginning of what she is capable of!"

Thorsteinsdottir, a Junior from Akranes, Iceland had a great season for the Bears. She had a 74.6 scoring average this season and finished in fifteenth at the ASUN Championship. Her best overall finish of the season came at the Sam Golden Invitational where she was fourth. She had a 5th place finish at the Puerto Rico Iguana Invitational, finished 9th at The Judson, twelfth at the Diamante Intercollegiate, and had a nineteenth place finish at the Red Raider Invitational. She also went 1-1-1 in the match play event the Bears played in this season.

Coach Rochelle on Thorsteinsdottir. "Gudrun came in prepared and ready to have a great Junior season. She was consistent throughout the whole year and a person we could count on every round. I am so happy to see her hard work pay off, being name All-ASUN."

Ramirez a Senior from Bogota, Colombia is majoring in Journalism with a 3.76 GPA. Ramirez combined her academic and athletic successes this season to be selected as an ASUN Scholar Athlete. Ramirez had a 74.44 scoring average this season. Her top finish this season was third place at The Judson. She also finished eighteenth at the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational, twentieth at the Puerto Rico Iguana Invitational and 20th at the ASUN Championship. She went 2-0-1 at the match play event this season.

Coach Rochelle on Ramirez. "Valeria does an amazing Jon of balancing school and golf. She works tirelessly to do both at a very high level and this shows with the high academic standards she is able to maintain. She is wonderful on the golf course and I am happy she is also getting the recognition for her great work in the classroom."
