JONESBORO, Ark. — Central Arkansas (22-19) fell to Arkansas State University (25-15) with a final score of 20-10 on Tuesday night at Tomlinson Stadium-Slayton Family Field. Despite the loss, Central Arkansas managed to score 10 runs on 11 hits, including a home run.
Central Arkansas started strong in the first inning with a two-run homer by
Jack Runsick, bringing home
Jagger Schattle. The inning concluded with Central Arkansas leading 2-0.
In the third inning, Central Arkansas added three more runs. Schattle hit an RBI single, scoring
Noah Goodshield, followed by a fielding error that allowed both Schattle and Runsick to score, extending their lead to 5-3.
Arkansas State surged ahead in the fourth inning, scoring 16 runs, capitalizing on an errors, hit by pitches and timely hits, taking a commanding 19-5 lead.
Central Arkansas responded in the fifth inning with two runs.
Zeb Allen scored on a ground out by Schattle, and
Parker Gwyn's single brought another runner home, making it 19-7.
In the sixth inning, Central Arkansas added three more runs. A sacrifice fly by Gwyn and a two-RBI single by Runsick reduced the deficit to 19-10.
Arkansas State scored once more in the seventh inning, bringing the final score to 20-10.
JB Williams started on the mound for Central Arkansas, pitching 3 innings and allowing 3 runs on 3 hits while striking out 1 and issuing 3 walks.
Samuel Curtis provided a solid relief appearance with 2 2/3 innings, surrendering 1 run on 3 hits and striking out 3.
Nicholas French faced challenges in his brief outing, recording just 1 out but allowing 3 runs, all unearned, and hitting 3 batters.
Kannon Nesslage struggled in his appearance, giving up 10 runs, 8 earned, on 7 hits in just 1/3 inning.
Luke Lorence was also unable to prevent scoring, allowing 3 runs on 2 hits without recording an out.
