NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Central Arkansas (18-18, 7-8) fell to Lipscomb University (15-17, 8-7) in a close 6–5 contest on Sunday at Ken Dugan Field. The Bears tallied 10 hits and drew six walks, but Lipscomb's two home runs proved to be the difference.
Central Arkansas and Lipscomb both scored twice in the first inning.
Nate Negre singled and advanced to third on hits by
Jagger Schattle and
Parker Gwyn.
Mark Ross walked, allowing Negre to score, while
Keaton Laidley's walk brought Schattle home. The score was tied at 2–2 after the first inning.
In the fourth, Lipscomb took a 4–2 lead. Mahan scored on a sacrifice fly by Miles, and Kenealy Jr. scored on an Ludeiro single.
The Bears narrowed the gap in the fifth to 4–3. Gwyn singled, stole two bases, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ross.
Central Arkansas took the lead in the sixth inning.
Zane Denton and Negre scored on a two-RBI single by Gwyn, making it 5–4 for the Bears.
Lipscomb tied the game at 5–5 in the seventh with a solo home run by Thomas.
In the eighth, Lipscomb pulled ahead 6–5 with a home run by Holm.
Central Arkansas was unable to score in the ninth, resulting in a final score of Lipscomb 6, Central Arkansas 5.
Jacob Pannell pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing nine hits and five earned runs while walking one and striking out two. He threw 93 pitches in total, with 56 of them being strikes, and he also surrendered one home run.
Kannon Nesslage followed Pannell, pitching 1 2/3 innings and conceding one hit and one earned run, which came from a home run, while throwing 17 pitches, 13 of them strikes.
