JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Central Arkansas (22-12, 15-3 ASUN) fell in overtime to Queens University of Charlotte (21-13, 13-5 ASUN) 98-93, on Sunday at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in the ASUN Championship Tournament Finals. The Bears led at halftime, fell behind in the second half before clawing their way back into the game late to force overtime but were outscored 16-11 in overtime.
Camren Hunter set a new ASUN Tournament record, a UCA single game record and a career high with 49 points.
Central Arkansas opened the game with a strong offensive performance, highlighted by
Javion Guy-King's three-pointer just 23 seconds in, assisted by
Malchiah Marable. The Bears maintained early momentum, building an 8-0 lead with
Ty Robinson's three-pointer and Marable's layup. The Royals responded with a 6-0 run, featuring a three-pointer from Chris Ashby at 16:50. The teams exchanged leads multiple times throughout the half, with eight assists from the Bears contributing to their 34-30 lead at the end of the first half.
Camren Hunter's layup at 6:46 kept the Bears in front, while the Royals relied on long-range shooting to stay close.
In a tightly contested second half, the Royals took a narrow lead with a strong performance from beyond the arc, highlighted by Chris Ashby's three-pointer at 4:21 to extend their advantage to 71-59.
Camren Hunter was huge for Central Arkansas, scoring a crucial three-pointer with 27 seconds left to bring the score to 79-78, and also converting two free throws with 17 seconds remaining to narrow the deficit to one. With just two seconds left, Hunter's layup tied the game at 82, sending the game to overtime.
In overtime, the Royals pulled ahead with a series of key plays, including a crucial 3-pointer by Chris Ashby at the 3:59 mark, extending their lead to 87-82. Avantae Parker contributed with a dunk shortly after, pushing the margin to seven points. Robinson responded for the Bears with a layup and a free throw to complete a three point play, narrowing the gap to 89-85. Despite a late 3-pointer from Hunter bringing the Bears within three points, free throws by Ashby and Jordan Watford in the closing moments secured a 98-93 victory for Queens.
