NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Central Arkansas softball team couldn't finish off the sweep at Lipscomb Sunday afternoon, dropping a 12-7 final score to close the weekend in Nashville.
Central Arkansas moved to 21-11 overall and 3-3 with the decision.
Lilly Hood went 3-for-3 on the day, hitting two doubles and a home run. Three other Bears recorded two hits in the game as Central Arkansas collected 11 base knocks on Sunday.
The Bears nearly got on the board in the first inning, loading the bases with some two-out action, but the Bisons' defense was able to secure the third out before allowing any damage to occur. Lipscomb then opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, combining three singles and a walk to plate two runs.
But Central Arkansas got right back into it in the top of the second.
Grace Molitor got on board with a four-pitch walk, then stole second to get into scoring position.
Lilly Hood doubled to move Molitor over to third, and
Autumn Vessier cleared the bases with a triple to left center.
Renee Christian followed it up with a single up the middle, and Central Arkansas took a 3-2 lead. Lipscomb countered in the home half of the frame, however, hitting a grand slam to take the lead right back.
After a scoreless third inning, the Bears put the bat back to work in the fourth inning, needing to make a move down three runs.
Trinity Brandon led off with her 14
th double of the season, and
Emma Robertson sent her home with a knock to right center.
Sydney Kildow came in to pinch run for Robertson, and a walk and a sacrifice bunt moved her all the way to third.
Grace Molitor hit a sacrifice fly, and
Lilly Hood doubled, and the game was tied right back up at 6-6.
Lipscomb crossed home three more times in each of the fourth and fifth innings, taking a commanding six-run lead late in the game. Hood tagged a home run to start the seventh, but the lineup couldn't keep it going. Despite the loss, the Bears won their first ASUN series of the year, and 3-3 in ASUN games has Central Arkansas tied for third after two weekends.
