Bears Fall in Midweek Action against Arkansas

CONWAY, Ark. – Facing the nationally ranked Hogs for a second time in a week, the Central Arkansas softball team couldn't generate enough offense to keep up with No. 9/10 Arkansas, dropping a midweek meeting in front of 1,455 fans at Natalie Shock Stadium.

The Bears (21-13) mustered six hits against the Razorbacks, but they were a little too scattered to help the home team put together many runs. Renee Christian extended her hitting streak to 21-straight games, Addie Graham reached base for the 26th-straight game, and Emma Robertson recorded the team's 68th double of the season.

Just like last time against Arkansas, the Bears were the first team to score. The Hogs put a pair of runners on in the first, but Bailie Runner induced a ground ball to get out of the jam, sending her team to the plate in the bottom of the first. Christian did what she does, leading off with a single and moving to second on the first opportunity. She moved to third base on a flyout, and a fielder's choice sent her home to take the lead.

Arkansas tied the game in the next half inning, pairing back-to-back doubles to knot the score at 1-1. The Hogs would take the lead in the third, and the Bears' struggles started to mount as the innings crept along without the score staying too close. Central Arkansas got one back in the fourth, as Kaitlyn Graham started things with a single. Sydney Kildow came in to pinch run, and reached second on a groundout in the infield. Lilly Hood bashed one up the middle, and Kildow was able to score from second on the play. But the Razorbacks continued to move the ball around on offense, closing things out in the sixth.

Central Arkansas is back in ASUN action this weekend, playing Austin Peay in a three-game set. The Bears and Governors will play one game per day Friday through Sunday, with game times of 6 p.m., 1 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
