CONWAY, Ark. — Central Arkansas (12-11, 2-3) fell to Bellarmine (7-14, 2-3) with a final score of 5-2 on Saturday at Bear Stadium. Despite a two-run seventh inning, the Bears managed just three hits in the match-up.
Central Arkansas faced Bellarmine, the visiting team took an early lead. In the first inning, Bellarmine's Swader homered down the right field line, bringing in the first run. The inning ended with Bellarmine leading 1-0.
In the second inning, Bellarmine extended its lead. Akers singled to shortstop and scored on Huett's single through the right side, making it 2-0 for the Knights after two innings.
The fourth inning saw Bellarmine adding to its advantage. Swader doubled to center field, driving in two runs, which increased the lead to 4-0.
Central Arkansas responded in the seventh inning.
Zeb Allen tripled to left field, setting up a scoring opportunity. A sacrifice fly by
Landon Carter allowed Allen to score, followed by
Jagger Schattle's single up the middle, which brought in
Jack Runsick. This reduced Bellarmine's lead to 4-2 through seven innings.
Bellarmine scored once more in the ninth inning when Watson scored on Murphy's single through the right side, finalizing the game's score.
Patrick Fernandez started on the mound for the Bears, pitching 3 2/3 innings and allowing four earned runs on six hits, with three walks and four strikeouts.
Austin Jones relieved Fernandez and delivered 2 1/3 scoreless innings, conceding just two hits and one walk while striking out two.
JB Williams closed with three innings, yielding one earned run on three hits, and striking out two without issuing any walks.
