CONWAY, Ark. – The Atlantic Sun Conference has announced its Academic All-ASUN Team, and Central Arkansas placed three Sugar Bears on the conference's list. The spots are earned by holding a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50, playing more than 50 percent of the team's contests, and completing more than half of the progress toward a degree.
The three Sugar Bears to make the list are
Jenna Cook,
Shae Littleford and
Bree Stephens. Cook, though just a sophomore, has been progressing rapidly through a marketing degree, and holds a 3.71 cumulative grade point average as she wraps up her second collegiate season. The Cabot native provided a punch off the bench for the Sugar Bears, averaging 8.3 points per game and 2.1 rebounds per game, while adding 48 assists and 27 steals. She had 11 games of double-digit scoring, including two games of 21 points this season. She led the Sugar Bears and ranked tenth in the ASUN with 48 three-pointers, and had 15 games of multiple threes.
Littleford, a graduate transfer from UT Martin, qualifies after posting a 4.0 in her first semester as she works toward a master's in accounting. Littleford has been an excellent addition to the Sugar Bears this season, making an immediate impact with her leadership while affecting both sides of the ball. She ranked fifth in the ASUN in scoring with 14.2 points per game, and was the only player in the ASUN to hit 130 field goals, 45 three-pointers and 100 free throws. She finished the regular season ninth in field goals, eighth in three-pointers and third in free throws, the only player in the ASUN to finish in the top-ten in all three scoring categories. Shae also ranked ninth in the league in total steals, racking up 47 swipes.
Stephens, a management major, holds a 3.50 GPA as she gets closer to finishing her collegiate career. Stephens, still widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the ASUN, was the only player in the conference to finish in the top-7 in blocks, steals and rebounds per game. She ranked third in the ASUN with 47 blocks, and seventh with 49 steals. It marks the third-straight year of 40 blocks and 40 steals for the senior, who moved into first in program history for career blocks in the team's Division I history, and second on the all-time list. The Australian added 10.5 points per game, and led the Sugar Bears with 7.0 rebounds per game and 81 assists. Her 2.7 assists per game ranked tenth in the ASUN, and her 7.0 rebounds ranked sixth.
Behind these three, the Sugar Beras earned the ASUN's No. 3 seed in the upcoming ASUN Championship, and will look to reach a third-straight ASUN Championship Final. The Sugar Bears start their run on Thursday in Jacksonville, playing at 6:30 p.m. CT.
