RUSTON, La. — Central Arkansas (11-10, 1-2) narrowly fell to Louisiana Tech (14-8, 3-0) with a final score of 5-4 on Tuesday at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
Central Arkansas managed to tie the game in the seventh inning with a two-run surge, but Louisiana Tech secured the win with a run in the ninth.
Central Arkansas took an early lead in the first inning with
Zeb Allen's two-run homer, driving in
Kade Seldomridge after his single and stolen base. The inning concluded with Central Arkansas leading 2-0.
Louisiana Tech responded in the bottom of the second inning. After a walk and another walk, Zeb Ruddell hit a three-run homer to give the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead by the end of the inning.
In the third inning, Louisiana Tech extended its lead when Cade Patterson hit a solo home run to deep right field, pushing the score to 4-2.
Central Arkansas tied the game in the seventh inning.
Jayden Sloan and
Landon Carter singled to set the stage for
Keon Moseni's pinch-hit double to center field, driving in two runs. The inning ended with the score tied at 4-4.
In the bottom of the ninth, Louisiana Tech secured the victory. Colby Lunsford singled and advanced to third on a wild pitch before Trey Hawsey delivered a walk-off RBI single, giving Louisiana Tech a 5-4 win over the Bears.
Jacob Pannell delivered a solid performance on the mound, pitching 5 1/3 innings with three hits, four earned runs, six strikeouts, and two home runs allowed.
Austin Jones contributed 2 innings of relief, giving up two hits and two walks while keeping the scoreline clean with no earned runs.
Jake Jones closed the pitching efforts by striking out two batters in his first inning of work.
