CONWAY, Ark. – Three Central Arkansas track and field athletes earned ASUN Performer of the Week awards, the conference announced Wednesday.
Jaden Schneeberger was named Men's Field Performer of the Week,
Joia Perry earned Women's Field Performer of the Week, and
Zoe Williams brought home Women's Freshman of the Week honors.
Schneeberger's selection marks his second Field Performer of the Week award of the indoor season. The honor follows Schneeberger's first-place throw of 19.56m (64-02.25), beating out over 40 competitors in the weight throw event at last weekend's Washburn Open and Multi meet. He also placed fourth in the shot put competition with a 16.61m (54-06) mark.
Perry's honors follow her school record-breaking mark of 20.42m (67-00) in the women's weight throw, beating out her own record from last season by almost half a meter. Her throw landed seven feet farther than the next closest competitor and earned a first-place finish out of 43 athletes.
Williams' Women's Freshman of the Week designation is the first honor of her career in the Purple and Gray and follows her double record-breaking performance in the women's 60m hurdles. In the qualifying round, Williams placed fourth overall with a time of 8.57, breaking the indoor school record. Williams came back in the finals round with an 8.45, beating her previous time by over a tenth of a second and placing third.
The Bears will be back in action on Saturday, February 7, in Fayetteville at the Wooo Pig Classic. Field events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., while running events are set to kick off at noon.
