LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After the first day of competition at the ASUN Championships, the University of Central Arkansas track and field teams have built a solid foundation with the men's team leading the meet by 23 points and the women leading by 30. Overall, the Bears earned 12 podium finishes across six events on day one.
On the women's side,
Keirstin Moore claimed the first medal of the day for Central Arkansas with a third-place finish in the pentathlon competition, tallying 3409 points along the way.
Bailee Villavaso continued her record-breaking ways en route to her second straight ASUN Indoor Pole Vault gold medal. Villavaso cleared 4.27 meters (14-00) to set new school and ASUN records.
Kylie Coleman brought home the silver medal with a 3.66-meter (12-00) vault and
Ansley Drake completed the podium sweep with a 3.66-meter (12-00) mark of her own, earning a bronze medal.
Joia Perry also successfully defended her ASUN Women's Weight Throw title, taking the gold with a throw of 20.60 meters (67-07), over two meters farther than the second-place finisher. Like Villavaso, Perry too set a new school and ASUN record along with her title.
Brenae Allen set a new ASUN and school record in the 60-meter dash, qualifying for the finals round on Saturday with a 7.33 finish.
Troynelle Miller (7.39),
Danyelle Poole (7.45) and
Raghan Allen (7.47) all also qualified for the finals.
In the 60-meter hurdles, freshman,
Zoe Williams, qualified for the finals round with a qualifying time of 8.56.
Brenae Allen (23.93), Poole (24.27) and Miller (26.62) all qualified for the finals round in the 200-meter dash event.
Abby Machesky ran a 2:12.30 in the 800-meter run, qualifying for Saturday's finals.
On the men's side,
Jaden Schneeberger claimed the gold medal in the weight throw event with a 19.74-meter (64-09.25) throw.
Devyn Steingisser earned the silver with an 18.95-meter (62-02.25) mark and
Treavor Green finished off the podium sweep with an 18.70-meter (61-04.25), good for the bronze medal.
In the long jump competition,
Maverick Walker claimed the gold with a 7.39-meter (24-03) leap, edging out the second-place finisher by 3.5 inches.
Brayden Burris earned the bronze medal with a jump of 7.08-meters (23-02.75).
Sloan Jones took the gold in the men's pole vault with a 4.72-meter (15-05.75) clearance.
Nathan Uptagrafft brought home bronze after clearing 4.62-meters (15-01.75).
Gabriel Torres earned a place in the 60-meter dash finals round after running a 6.74 qualifying time. Clifton McBride also earned a finals spot with a time of 6.83.
All three Central Arkansas athletes to run in the qualifying round of the 60-meter hurdles earned a spot in Saturday's finals.
Byron Holt ran the fastest qualifying time, coming in at 7.89,
Christian Brown ran an 8.07, and
Xavier Simpkins finished in 8.12.
McBride qualified for the 200-meter finals round with a time of 21.52. Torres also qualified with a 21.79.
Keaton Hansard qualified for the 400-meter finals, after running a 47.81 qualifying time.
Both Bears to run the 800-meter qualifying race earned a spot in the finals.
Ky Bickford ran a 1:51.76 and
Trae Baker ran a 1:52.01.
Jack Dingman broke his own school record in the one-mile run at the second straight meet, crossing the finish line in 4:01.68.
Day two of the meet will kick off with the men's heptathlon at 7:30 a.m. CT., field events are set to begin at 9:30 with the women's high jump, and running events will start at 11 with the final round of the men's one-mile run.
