Women's Basketball Set to Face EKU

CONWAY, Ark. – Fresh off of a record-setting win on Thursday, the Central Arkansas women's basketball team will try to parlay that momentum into Saturday's game against Eastern Kentucky. Facing one of the best offenses in the ASUN, the Sugar Bears and Colonels will battle it out in the Farris Center at 1 p.m.

The Sugar Bears (9-6, 2-1 ASUN) set several program records against a shorthanded Bellarmine squad on Thursday, including the largest margin of victory against a Division I school, defeating the Knights by 56 points. Shae Littleford and Cheyanne Kemp led the team with 17 points apiece, Laylah Reese added 14, and Jenna Cook contributed 11. Central Arkansas had 25 assists on 30 field goals, and held Bellarmine under ten points in three of the four quarters.

With the win, Central Arkansas moved to 32-3 at home under head coach Tony Kemper. The Sugar Bears have created one of the most difficult places to play in the ASUN, and have allowed only 40 points per game over four home games this season.

Central Arkansas has had a very even record against EKU since joining the ASUN, going 4-4 against the Colonels since 2021-22. Eastern Kentucky dominated the early part of the series, but Central Arkansas has now won the last three meetings, including an ASUN Championship Semifinal in 2024. Last year's matchup in Richmond went to the wire, with the Sugar Bears pulling off a four-point road win.

Eastern Kentucky comes to town with a 12-4 record, including a 3-0 start to ASUN play. The Colonels are averaging 76 points per game, and most recently pulled off a great comeback against North Alabama on Thursday, winning 80-78 after trailing by double-digits at half. Liz Freihofer scored a game-high 26 points, including 14 points in the fourth quarter to complete the comeback.

Freihofer leads the team and ranks fifth in the ASUN, averaging 14.4 points per game. The sophomore guard averages 18.3 points per game over the first three ASUN games, and has scored in double-figures in all but two games this season. Also scoring double-digits this season is Colorado State transfer Joseana Vaz, who averages 13.4 points and a team-high 7.4 rebounds per game.

Tip-off against EKU is set for 1 p.m. in the Farris Center. The game will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats available. As always, fans can also keep up with all the action at The Bear 91.3, with Steve Owens on the call.
