CONWAY, Ark. – Back at home for the first time in over a month, the Central Arkansas women's basketball team is finally back in the Farris Center on Thursday, getting ready to face Bellarmine in ASUN action. The Sugar Bears and Knights will tip off at 6:30 p.m.
Central Arkansas (8-6, 1-1 ASUN) split its first week in ASUN play, earning a win at Stetson before dropping the weekend game against FGCU. The win over the Hatters saw one of the more impressive defensive second halves of the season, as the Sugar Bears held their opponent to 17 second half points. Then on Saturday, the Sugar Bears held the Eagles to the fewest points in the series, despite shots not falling on the other end.
The Sugar Bears return to the Farris Center after six-straight road contests, a stretch that saw Central Arkansas go 2-4. Returning home for a couple of games should do wonders for a team that has gone 31-3 at the Farris Center over the last two-plus seasons. This season, the Sugar Bears are 3-0 at home, with a Division I win over Arkansas State back on November 19
th.
All-time, Central Arkansas is 5-2 against the Knights, losing two of the four games in Louisville. Though the Sugar Bears dropped the meeting in Louisville last season, it spurred a 12-game winning streak that helped vault Central Arkansas to second in the ASUN. In the second meeting of the year, in the ASUN Championship opener,
Bree Stephens dropped 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting, including a perfect 4-for-4 from deep.
Bellarmine will come to the Farris Center with a 2-13 record, and an 0-2 slate to start conference play. The Knights have allowed 100-plus points in three of the last four games, including a home game against West Georgia on Saturday.
The Knights have only played seven players in conference games, bringing just two players off the bench. Through two games, the Knights are led by Kayce Hyman's 15.0 points per game. Rose Jamison adds 10.5 points per game in conference play, and is one of three players on the team with two three-pointers on the team.
Tip-off against the Knights is set for 6:30 p.m. in the Farris Center. The game will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats available online. Fans can also follow the action at 91.3 The Bear, with Steve Owens on the call.
