CONWAY, Ark. – Back in action on Saturday, the Central Arkansas women's basketball team looks to rebound after Thursday's loss, welcoming in Stetson for the first half of a double-header in the Farris Center. Tip-off against the Hatters is set for 1 p.m.
The Sugar Bears (11-9, 4-4 ASUN) will look to repeat the result from the first meeting with Stetson this season on Saturday. The January 1
st matchup saw Central Arkansas hold the Hatters to a season-low 43 points, giving up just 17 points in the entire second half. Stetson shot just 27 percent from the field and 18 percent from three-point range. Offensively, eight Sugar Bears contributed at least four points, with
Shae Littleford (15) and
Paris Santacaterina (13) both logging double-figures.
But since that ASUN opening win, the Sugar Bears have gone 3-4 in league play, and much of that has come in direct correlation with shooting. When Central Arkansas has shot over 40 percent in ASUN games, the team is 4-0. When shooting below that mark, the Sugar Bears are 0-4.
Stetson (12-8, 5-4 ASUN) has had similar success since the ASUN opener, going 5-3 since losing that home game on New Years. Most recently, the Hatters squeaked out a 66-62 win at North Alabama on Thursday. Aleah Sorrentino had 19 points and seven rebounds to lead Stetson. The Hatters outscored the Lions by eight in the fourth quarter to claim the four-point win.
Since the start of ASUN play, Stetson has continued to rely on the offense of Cameron Thomas, who ranks ninth in the conference averaging 14.1 points per game. The senior guard continues to lead her team in field goals (43) and three-pointers (20), but after shooting 48 percent from the field and 46 percent from three during nonconference games, her shooting splits are down to 40 percent from the field and 31 percent from three.
Tip-off against the Hatters is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday. The game will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats available online. Fans can also keep up with the action on 91.3 The Bear, with Steve Owens on the call.
