CONWAY, Ark. – Central Arkansas volleyball opened ASUN Conference play in style Friday night, sweeping Lipscomb 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 26-24) inside the Prince Center. The Sugar Bears (4-7, 1-0 ASUN) outlasted the Bisons (4-7, 0-1 ASUN) in two nail-biting sets to secure their first league win of the season in front of 289 fans.
Gabby Tuiaana led the way offensively with 12 kills on an impressive .600 hitting percentage, while Laci Bohannan added nine kills and chipped in a service ace. Samantha Cousins was also key at the net, finishing with eight kills.
Setter Caylan Koons orchestrated the offense with 28 assists and served up two aces, helping UCA hit a sharp .386 as a team—its second-highest percentage of the season.
Defensively, Alexis McDaniel anchored the back row with 10 digs, while McKinzee Haas contributed four blocks. Tuiaana was also effective on both sides of the net, adding four digs and two block assists to her standout performance.
The Sugar Bears controlled the opening set behind efficient hitting before fighting through back-and-forth battles in the second and third frames. The Bisons tied UCA 19 times across the match, but Central Arkansas answered each rally with clutch kills and timely serves to complete the sweep.
Central Arkansas continues its homestand when it hosts Austin Peay at the Prince Center. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sept. 28th.
