LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Despite a lead at halftime, the Central Arkansas women's soccer team couldn't hold on against the Little Rock Trojans, falling 3-2 on Sunday.
Kayla Hurley and
Lea Duus Madsen tallied goals in the loss, but had the Bears up at the midway point.
The Trojans came out of the gate quickly, controlling possession in their offensive third. But the Bears countered and moved the ball forward quickly, resulting in a shot on goal by
Caroline Billings. Central Arkansas continued to maintain control until
Sakiko Manabe dropped a ball to Hurley, who finished the opening score of the match. Central Arkansas continued to maintain possession in dangerous parts of the field, battling the Trojans with a few shots until Duus Madsen followed a shot from
Jama Akpanudo to give Central Arkansas a two-goal lead.
Little Rock didn't take long to answer the second one, knifing through the Bear defense to score just before halftime to gain some momentum going into the break.
After halftime, the Trojans continued to press, evening the game in the 53
rd minute. Central Arkansas struggled to regain control, and momentum swung in favor of the home team. Billings put another shot on goal, but otherwise, the Bears had a tough time developing consistent offense. Little Rock finished off the comeback in the 70
th, taking the 3-2 lead that would seal the deal.
The Bears are back at home this Thursday, taking on UAPB at 7 p.m.
