CONWAY, Ark. — The Central Arkansas women's soccer team delivered a commanding performance with a 7-0 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Thursday. The Bears netted two goals in the first half and added five more in the second, coasting to victory.
Central Arkansas (3-3) took an early lead in the first half against Arkansas-Pine Bluff with a goal from
Caroline Billings in the 11th minute. The home team maintained offensive pressure, recording multiple shots and corner kicks throughout the early stages.
Sakiko Manabe and
Nina Mazzola assisted
Trace Pavatt on a 15th-minute goal, extending the lead to 2-0. Despite continued pressure, however, the two quick goals would be the only two in the first half.
The Bears continued to play with energy in the second half, opening the scoring quickly with
Rylee Ellis' 55th-minute score on a corner kick, which was quickly followed by Pavatt's second goal in the 56th minute. It marked the first multi-goal game for Pavatt, who scored her third and fourth goals of the season against UAPB. She now leads the Bears and is tied for most goals in the ASUN this season.
The home team continued to score, with additional goals from
Ashlanne Fuentes in the 62nd minute, Manabe in the 65th minute, and
Ashlyn May in the 70th minute, bringing the score to 7-0. The three scores were the first-career goals for all three Bears. By the final whistle, 30 Bears saw the field, and Central Arkansas outshot UAPB 45-0, one of the biggest shot discrepancies in program history. It also marked the first time since 2018 that the Bears have held an opponent without a shot, leaving little for
Anna Kathryn Harrell and
Hanna Hargrave to do.
Next up, the Bears have a home match against Missouri State on September 11th. The battle of the Bears is set for a 6 p.m. kickoff at the Bill Stephens Track and Soccer Complex.
