CONWAY, Ark. – At least back in the central time zone, the Central Arkansas men's soccer team gears up for a short road trip to Tulsa on Friday. The Bears and Golden Hurricane kick off at 6 p.m.
The Bears (0-2) are still looking for that first win of the season, but started the year with a brutal combo of Portland and UC Santa Barbara, a couple of teams that consistently vie for national rankings and NCAA Tournament appearances. Last time out, Central Arkansas came up just short against the Gauchos, falling 2-1 in a tightly contested match that saw the Bears with chances to equalize late.
Vaclav Kozeny scored the opening goal of the season for Central Arkansas, but the Bears couldn't find a second goal to add to it.
Last time the Bears and Golden Hurricane met, the teams battled to a 1-1 draw.
Aby Gomez assisted on the Bears goal late in the first half, but a 63
rd minute equalizer from Tulsa sent the teams to the final whistle tied. Each side had just the one shot on goal, despite a combined 22 shots between the teams. Central Arkansas returns six starters from that match, with nine players that logged minutes in last season's matchup back on the squad this year.
Tulsa (0-1-1) is also looking for its first win of the season, having dropped its last match to Cal State Fullerton. The Golden Hurricane gave up a goal in the 11
th minute, and despite 11 shots with five on frame, couldn't grab the tying score. Now two games into the season, Tulsa has yet to score a goal, despite outshooting opponents 22-16 with a 12-5 advantage in shots on goal.
Kickoff against the Golden Hurricane is set for 6 p.m. in Tulsa. The match will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats available online.
