CONWAY, Ark. – The Central Arkansas men's soccer team prepares for one more match on the West Coast, taking on UC Santa Barbara at 9 p.m. CT.
The Bears (0-1) couldn't find a result in game one of the season, falling to Portland in a tough road match. The Pilots controlled possession for most of the game, and the Central Arkansas offense couldn't generate enough to keep up.
Central Arkansas looks to bounce back after a loss, something the Bears were able to do well last season, going 4-2-1 after losses last year. Central Arkansas will continue to lean on
Javier Ramirez in goal, who made seven saves against the Pilots, and will look for more from an offnse that had just one shot on goal against Portland.
UC Santa Barbara also lost its opener, falling 3-0 at Oregon State to start the year. Similar to the Bears, the Gauchos trailed by one at the break, but also only had one shot on goal the entire night, preventing them from being able to get back into the contest.
The Gauchos represent another tall task for the Bears, who have made a name for themselves playing some of the toughest nonconference schedules in the country. UC Santa Barbara was picked to win the Big West in the preseason coaches' poll, and defender Calle Mollerberg was added to the league's preseason team.
The Bears and Gauchos kick off at 9 p.m. CT on Monday. The match will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats available online.
