CONWAY, Ark. – The Central Arkansas women's basketball team gets set for its second SEC game of the year, heading over to Fayetteville to take on the University of Arkansas on Monday. Tip-off against the Razorbacks is set for 8 p.m.
The Sugar Bears (1-1) opened their home schedule on Friday, defeating Lyon College 115-43 at the Farris Center. The home team won the day with defensive pressure, forcing 36 turnovers and racking up 27 steals, the third-most in a single game in program history, as well as the first 20-steal game by the Sugar Bears since 2021-22.
It was a total team effort on Friday, with 12 Sugar Bears scoring the ball, led by
Cheyanne Kemp's career-high 22 points. She was one of five players to score in double-figures, and the Sugar Bears made 15 three-pointers on 42 percent shooting.
Last time Central Arkansas and Arkansas played was last season, where the Sugar Bears put up 70 points in the loss to the Razorbacks. It marked the most points against the team from Fayetteville, and included 13 points from
Bree Stephens.
This season's Arkansas team has a new head coach in Kelsi Musick, having coached at Oral Roberts before making the jump to the SEC. Musick has her team 2-0 after double-digit wins over Louisiana Tech and Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Averaging 97 points per game after two contest, the Razorbacks have logged 90-plus in both games.
Five Razorbacks are averaging double-digit scoring, led by Bonnie Deas's 18.5 ppg. Arkansas has been shooting the ball very well, hitting 24 three-pointers on 44 percent shooting as a team, with eight players hitting at least one so far this season.
