Volleyball Claims Five All-ASUN Nods

CONWAY, Ark. – The awards continue to roll in for the Central Arkansas volleyball team, with five Sugar Bears claiming ASUN honors for their seasons. The Sugar Bears earned one First Team All-ASUN selection, three on the Third Team, and one All-Freshman nod.

"What an honor to have five of our players earn All-Conference recognition this season. Each one of them is a true standout in this league and has been instrumental to our team's success. I'm incredibly proud of who they are—both as athletes and as teammates—and of the consistency, competitiveness, and heart they bring every single day." – Head coach John Newberry

Bohannan earned her second-straight First Team selection as one of the most feared offensive players in the ASUN. With 319 kills this season, Bohannon reached 1,000 career kills this season, and once again ranks in the top-five in the ASUN in kills per set. Adding in her serving (26 aces) and defense (53.0 total blocks), she finished the regular season third in the conference in points per set at 4.02 points.

The three Third Team members are Caylan Koons, Alexis McDaniel and Gabby Tuiaana, who helped bolster the ASUN's second-best record. Koons continues to be one of the best setters in the ASUN, finishing the regular season third in assists per set (8.68) and sixth in total assists (816). In ASUN matches, she was top-three in both assists per set (9.58) and total assist (546).

"Laci has been a dominant force all season—difficult to slow down and nearly impossible to stop. She's been consistently impactful with her powerful swings and serves, and she's been just as strong defensively, especially at the net with her blocking. She has taken on a huge role for us and delivered in every way." – Coach Newberry

"Caylan has once again earned her place on the awards list. She has been the best setter in the conference throughout her career, and I'm thrilled to see her receive one more honor as she closes out her time with us. No one deserves this recognition more." – Coach Newberry

McDaniel earned another All-Conference nod after finishing third in the ASUN in digs per set with 4.13, and eighth in total digs with 396. The senior eclipsed 1,500 digs this season, breaking into the top-three in program history, and bolstering a defense that allowed the third-lowest hitting percentage in the ASUN. The four-year starter had double-digit digs in 24 matches this season, with a season-high 26 against Southeastern Louisiana.

"Alexis has always been a player opponents prepare for. She's memorable because of her tenacity and highly respected across the conference for her elite passing and her toughness from the service line. She consistently anchors us in crucial moments." – Coach Newberry

The third Third Team member, Tuiaana, continued to improve as her time at Central Arkansas progressed. She finished with the second-most kills on the team with 257, good for 2.89 per set. Combining her offense with her 24 service aces and 72.0 total blocks, she ranked tenth in the ASUN with 318.5 points and her 3.58 points per set were the seventh-best.

"Gabby stepped into a new starting role this season and exceeded every expectation. From her blocking presence to competing in all six rotations, she has proven herself as one of the best in the conference. Her growth and impact have been tremendous." – Coach Newberry

Included on the league's All-Freshman Team, McKinzee Haas had a special first year of collegiate volleyball. She finished the season tied for first place in the entire conference with 1.15 blocks per set, and she became one of the eight players to have a 100 block season in ASUN history. She was also very effective offensively, racking up 150 kills on .321 hitting, the seventh-best hitting percentage in the conference.

"Haas rounds out our awards this season, and she has been remarkable. Taking on the middle blocker role as a first-year player, she improved with every match. She has established herself as one of the best middles in the conference in an incredibly short time, which speaks volumes about her dedication and talent." – Coach Newberry

The Sugar Bears now look ahead to tomorrow's first round of the ASUN Championship. Earning the No. 4 seed, Central Arkansas plays at 9 a.m. CT, taking on Lipscomb down in Fort Myers, Florida.
