CONWAY, Ark. – The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears earned a hard-fought 3–1 victory over Jacksonville on Saturday morning at the Prince Center, taking down the Dolphins by scores of 26–28, 30–28, 25–18, 26–24.
Laci Bohannan powered the UCA offense with a dominant performance, tallying 26 kills on a .440 hitting percentage while adding 10 digs for her ninth double-double of the season, while also hitting a new season high. The Sugar Bears hit an impressive .265 as a team, outpacing Jacksonville's .173 clip.
Setter Caylan Koons guided the attack with 46 assists, three kills, and 11 digs, while Gabby Tuiaana added 12 kills on .333 hitting and two blocks. Greyson Button continued her steady play at the net with nine kills, a .333 hitting percentage, and a team-high seven block assists, helping UCA control the front line with 10 total team blocks.
Defensively, Alexis McDaniel anchored the back row with 16 digs, while McKinzee Haas contributed 10 total blocks for a strong two-way effort.
After dropping a tight opening set, Central Arkansas rallied behind Bohannan's hot hand to take the next three frames, winning sets two and four in extra points. The Sugar Bears outdug the Dolphins 63–65 and held Jacksonville to just .093 hitting in the decisive fourth set.
The win moves UCA to 12–10 overall and 9–3 in ASUN play, pulling even with Jacksonville in the conference standings.
Sugar Bears also honored their senior class which consisted of #1 Laci Bohannan, #6 Caylan Koons, #11 Samantha Cousins, #15 Brinley Burdette and #22 Alexis McDaniel.
Sugar Bears head to Tennessee next week to face off against Austin Peay and Lipscomb.
