CONWAY, Ark. – The final regular season match for the Central Arkansas men's soccer team is on Saturday, with postseason implications for the Bears. The team heads over to Lipscomb for an ASUN match, and kick off against the Bisons at 7 p.m.
The Bears (4-8-2, 3-1-1 ASUN) have locked up a spot in the ASUN Championship next week, but could still snag a hosting seed with a win over Lipscomb. Tied atop the rankings with Bellarmine, the Bears need to outdo the Knights on Saturday to host at least some of the ASUN Championships.
Central Arkansas won its final home game of the regular season last Saturday, downing Queens 2-1 to clinch its spot in the ASUN Championship.
Devonte Richards and
Michael Oliveri netted goals in the win, ending the regular season a perfect 4-0 at home.
Last time the Bears and Bisons faced off, it was a 5-2 routing in Conway. Central Arkansas scored five unanswered goals in between Lipscomb scores, and four Bears logged goals in the match.
Maxim Sheenkov had himself a day, tallying five points on the night with two goals and an assist.
Lipscomb (1-8-6, 0-2-3 ASUN) continues to struggle as the season draws to a close, but actually, the Bisons still have a chance to make postseason. Despite having zero wins in ASUN play, the Bisons are still tied for third place in the ASUN Gold Division with Queens, leaving an opening for one of the two winless teams to make the ASUN Championship.
The Bisons have been able to get 1-1 draws out of the last three matches, tying Queens and Bellarmine for points in the ASUN, and also a last non-conference match against Louisville. The Bisons have scored five goals in their last four matches, with four different scorers.
Kickoff against the Bisons is set for 7 p.m. on Saturday. The match will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats available online.
