Sugar Bears Set to Face Wolves in ASUN Battle

CONWAY, Ark. – The Central Arkansas women's basketball team has a split week this week, with one on the road and one game at home. The Sugar Bears will start away from the Farris Center, playing West Georgia for the first time as ASUN opponents. Tip-off in Carrollton, Georgia is set for 6 p.m. CT.

Central Arkansas (13-6, 7-1 ASUN) picked up a major pair of road wins last week, narrowly defeating Lipscomb at Austin Peay by a combined three points. The biggest stat of the week was the second chance points; Central Arkansas outscored both opponents by a 37-0 margin on extra opportunities, with offensive rebounds playing a huge part in both wins. Elizabeth Abiara was a key contributor to that effect, recording ten offensive rebounds between the two games.

Abiara has been on a tear since the start of conference games. In ASUN games, the sophomore has averaged 9.4 points and 9.5 rebounds, recording two double-doubles and four games of double-digit rebounds. In addition, her efficiency has been remarkable, with Abiara shooting 64 percent from the floor during the conference stretch.

West Georgia has only been an opponent once in program history, the last ever game for the Sugar Bears as a Division II program. Back in the spring of 2006, the Sugar Bears and Wolves played in the first round of the Gulf South Championship in Tupelo, Mississippi, a game that the Wolves won. It marked the final game of not only the Gulf South days, but also the final Division II game for the Sugar Bears, who made the jump to Division I for the 2006-07 season.

This season's Wolves team is 8-11, and 2-6 in ASUN games. Last time out, the Wolves picked up their second ASUN win, defeating North Florida 79-71 on the road. West Georgia scored 35 in the fourth to claim the win. Four Wolves scored in double-digits, including 19 points from Zuriah Davis. The senior guard hit four three-pointers, and added six rebounds and five assists.

Davis leads her team in scoring this season, averaging just under 14 points per contest. A high-volume three-point shooter, Davis has 48 made threes this season, and is the only Wolf to shoot more than 62 this season, and she's let 150 triples fly this year. In conference, she's upped her scoring to 14.9 points per game with 21 made threes.

Tip-off against West Georgia is set for 6 p.m. CT in Carrollton. The game will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats available online. Fans can also follow all the action at 91.3 The Bear, with Steve Owens on the call.
