CONWAY, Ark. – Eighty-eight minutes of scoreless soccer just couldn't hold for two more, as the Central Arkansas women's soccer team fell to Little Rock 2-0 Thursday night.
The loss adds to what has been a tough start to the season for the Bears, and on Thursday came in heartbreaking fashion. Central Arkansas outshot the Trojans until the final, fateful minutes, and had otherwise played the more aggressive match throughout.
Kelly Van Gundy nearly got the scoring started in the sixth minute, missing a shot wide by about a foot. She would have another shot blocked before it could threaten in the 14
th, and momentum seemed to be in favor of the Bears.
Play stayed near the midfield line until
Brianna Lopez put a shot on target, but the Little Rock keeper was able to stay in front of it.
Kajsa Pruner made her first contribution to the box score in the 31
st, making a save to keep Little Rock scoreless through the end of the first half.
Anna Kerr really came alive in the second half, making some terrific runs and keeping pressure up top. Her shot in the 50
th minute skated just left of the goal, keeping the game scoreless.
Megan Moudy took a chance ten minutes later, hitting the crossbar from about 25 yards out.
Little Rock made a late push, taking a shot in the 84
th before finally finding the back of the net in the 89
th. Less than a minute later, the Trojans scored again, stunning the home crowd.
Central Arkansas won't have to wait long to try to right the ship, playing UTSA on Sunday. Kickoff against the Roadrunners is set for 1 p.m.
