CONWAY, Ark. – Despite several opportunities in both halves, the Central Arkansas women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 result to UTSA.
The Bears almost scored right off the opening kick, getting good looks from both
Kayla Hurley and
Megan Moudy. Hurley's shot slid just outside of the left post, and Moudy's was saved by the UTSA keeper.
After both teams settled in, though UTSA started to play its aggressive style, pounding the ball forward and sending runners after it. Central Arkansas was able to counter and get the ball out wide, finding two three shots around the 25
th minute.
The stalemate finally broke in the 38
th minute, when UTSA converted on a set piece. The Roadrunners would rally around that momentum, scoring shortly after to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Coming out of halftime, the Roadrunners continued to take advantage of their size and strength, and found a third goal in the 58
th. Central Arkansas continued to fight, trying to get the ball to the wings and press forward, but as time continued to pass, the drive and kicks began to take precious time.
Brianna Lopez took a look on a ball that got knocked out of the 18-yard box, but her shot flew just over the crossbar.
The Bears took one more look as time expired, but it was too little, too late. Central Arkansas looks ahead now to the resumption of play against Arkansas State on Thursday. The restart against the Red Wolves is set for 5:30 p.m.
