CONWAY, Ark. – The Central Arkansas men's soccer team hosts the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles on Thursday, playing for the sixth time since 2021 in Conway. Kickoff against the Golden Eagles is set for 5:30 p.m.
The Bears (2-1) look to continue a strong start to the season, having most recently dominated the Memphis Tigers on Sunday. The 3-0 win was highlighted by
Pietro Fontana's brace and a strong defensive effort.
Kevin Ventura added the third goal on a corner kick, and
Javier Ramirez played a stellar game in goal, making seven saves and recording his second shutout of the season.
With both players' scores on Sunday, Fontana and Ventura are tied for team-lead with two goals apiece. Ventura's other goal came in the near-upset of No. 15 Wake Forest, the lone blemish on the team's record. Ramirez added to his save total, and now has 21 on the season, with just three goals allowed. On the back line,
Elijah Bishop played all 90 minutes, and was part of a defense that held the Tigers scoreless for just the second time this year.
ORU enters the week 2-1-1, unbeaten in their last three matches. Most recently, the Golden Eagles defeated No. 24 UC Santa Barbara on Sunday, stealing a 2-1 win at home. Omar Mora scored both goals for ORU, who trailed at the halfway point. In the second half, Mora scored in the 69
th minute to even the score, before sinking a PK in the 82
nd to steal the game.
Mora is on a tear this season, scoring five goals in the team's first four matches. He has a pair of braces this year, scoring two in the season-opener against Kentucky and two against Santa Barbara. He is one of two Golden Eagles to score, with Jose Estrada scoring the only other goal this season for the team.
The Golden Hurricane have played one of the tougher schedules in the nation this early in the year, playing three ranked teams already. ORU dropped its opener to No. 22 Kentucky, then tied No. 10 SMU in Dallas before beating No. 24 Santa Barbara on Sunday.
Thursday's match will be streamed on ESPN+, and is slated for a 5:30 start time. Live stats will also be available online. Admission is free to all Central Arkansas men's soccer matches.
