DELAND, Fla. – The University of Central Arkansas beach volleyball team opened the 2024 ASUN tournament on a bit of a sour note on Wednesday afternoon, falling to Stetson. The Bears will wait to see who they will play Thursday in an elimination match in the loser's bracket, but for now, the Bears can rest. UCA fell to 8-24 on the season, but the Beach Bears will have the chance to keep the season alive in the late afternoon tomorrow.
UCA 0 – Stetson 5
The Bears seemed to be outmatched when it came to the two-seeded Hatters, who currently sit at No. 16 in the nation. The Hatters, who have aspirations for a second-straight ASUN title and a shot at the NCAA Championship, got out to an early lead, and it quickly became too much of a deficit for the Bears to claw their way out of. Anna Linskey and Naya Tan had an opportunity to take the second set and have a opportunity to get UCA on the board, but the No. 2 of Gauthier and Ferraris for Stetson proved to be too much, and they took the second set, 25-23. Stetson has now taken down UCA in the ASUN tournament in back-to-back seasons and lead the series 2-0.
UCA will take on the loser of the matchup between No. 3 Florida Gulf Coast and No. 6 Jacksonville on Thursday, April 25th at 2:00 p.m.
