ATLANTA - After a season of learning with a new coaching staff and team,
Kinley Fisher has proven that she can do it all, excelling in the classroom and on the court this season. For her magnanimous efforts, she has been named an ASUN All-Academic honoree. Fisher, a finance major, boasts a 3.71 cumulative GPA after a perfect 4.0 in the fall.
Â
"Anytime you have a student-athlete that is honored on the All-Academic Team it is an accomplishment for both the individual and the program," head coach Tony Kemper said of his guard. "It is a testament to Kinley's work ethic and talents both on and off the floor. We value our Central Arkansas education and Kinley is a shining example of the role that academics plays in our program."
Â
The Greenwood native finished the regular season second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.0 points per game. She ranked first on the team with four 20-point games, 77 free throws, and connected on 44 three-pointers this season. She is responsible for the highest-scoring game of the season by a Sugar Bear, scoring 24 points in the first matchup with North Alabama this season.
Â
A junior this season, Fisher adapted to head coach Tony Kemper's system, taking a role off the bench as a go-to guard. She expanded her game plenty over the offseason, adding skills on both sides of the ball to help the Sugar Bears improve from a nine-win team to a 19-win team this season.
Â
Fisher and the Sugar Bears host North Alabama in the ASUN Quarterfinals this weekend, facing the Lions for a third time this season on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. as the Sugar Bears look to extend their season.
