KNIGHTS' LATE THREE KNOCKS OFF BEARS

LOUISVILLE, Ky. _ The Bellarmine Knights got a contested three-pointer to fall in the final seconds Thursday night to knock off the University of Central Arkansas Bears 68-65 in ASUN action at Freedom Hall.

The Knights (7-21, 3-10), who have not had much luck finishing off games this season, got a fourth three-pointer of the game from Ben Johnson that just beat the buzzer to grab the home victory. UCA had tied it at 65-65 on a pair of free throws by graduate Daniel Sofield with 29 seconds left.

The Bears, fighting for a berth in the ASUN Tournament, closed the first half on a 13-2 run to take a 40-32 lead into the locker room. But the Knights came out with a spurt of their own and led by as much as eight points at the 15:25 mark. They would eventually outscore the Bears 36-25 in the second half.

Freshman Tucker Anderson had 17 points at the half and finished with 24, two short of tying his career high. He was 5 of 9 from three-point range and 5 of 5 at the free-throw line. UCA shot just 38.6 percent from the field overall, including 33.3 percent in the second half when it went 2 of 10 from three-point range.

Sophomore Glory Etim had a game-high 11 rebounds as UCA won the board battle 43-29. Junior Elias Cato had 12 points and 7 rebounds, while sophomore point guards Johannes Kirsipuu and Javion Guy-King combined for 11 assists. Kirsipuu finished with 9 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.

Peter Suder had 20 points for the Knights, who got just eight points off the bench.

UCA will play at league-leader Eastern Kentucky at noon (CST) Saturday before finishing up the regular season at home against North Alabama on Friday, March 1.
