Bears Set for ASUN Championship Final at UNF

CONWAY, Ark. – It all comes down to this! The Central Arkansas men's soccer team braces for an ASUN Championship Final match on Saturday, taking on North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida. Match time for the league's auto-bid to the NCAA Tournament is set for 6 p.m. CT.

The Bears (8-7-2) have been playing their best soccer over the last few matches, outscoring opponents 12-4 in the last three games, which included a regular-season finale against North Florida. After closing the regular season with a 6-2 win over the Ospreys, the Bears have won 3-2 and 3-0 in the ASUN Championship, advancing to a third Final in four seasons.

Tajio James has been the highlight reel of the tournament for the Bears, scoring five goals in his last five matches, with four of those coming in the last three games. The senior from Barbados has made a living on changing the flow of the game coming off the bench; his offensive outburst over the last five games has happened in 167 minutes of playing time, or less than two matches' worth of minutes.

Saturday will mark the third ASUN Championship final in four seasons since joining the conference. This will be the first time that the Bears have not faced Lipscomb in a final, playing a Florida school for the first time. Lipscomb did not make the ASUN Championship this season. Central Arkansas holds a 5-0 record in matches against North Florida, including the 6-2 score from the regular season finale.

The Ospreys earned their spot in to the finals with a 3-0 win over FGCU, having earned a first-round bye as the No. 1 seed. Joaquin Acuna tallied a brace, scoring two first-half goals to put the match out of reach before the halftime whistle. David Perez added the final score in the 54th, icing the game with plenty of time on the clock.

Saturday's appearance is the first ASUN Championship Final for the Ospreys since 2015. This season, the Ospreys are 5-2-1 at home, and find most of their success when scoring three or more goals, remaining unbeaten when scoring at least three times this year.

Kickoff against North Florida is set for 6 p.m. CT in Jacksonville. The match will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats available online.
