Sugar Bears Grind Out 3-1 Victory Over Eastern Kentucky

Conway, Ark. – The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears earned a tough 3-1 victory (25-18, 19-25, 25-20, 25-23) over the Eastern Kentucky Colonels on Saturday afternoon, bolstering their record in ASUN play. With an all-around team effort, the Sugar Bears hit .217 on the day, compared to Eastern Kentucky's .181, and controlled the match in key moments to secure the win.

The Sugar Bears' offense was powered by standout performances from Laci Bohannan, who notched a match-high 21 kills while hitting at an impressive .280 clip. Allison Holloway was a force in the middle with 11 kills and a .333 hitting percentage, contributing heavily to the Sugar Bears' attack. Mackenzie Vernon added 8 kills, while Regan Harp chipped in with 9 kills of her own.

Caylan Koons was instrumental in setting the offense in motion, dishing out 37 assists, while also contributing defensively with 16 digs. Alexa Carranza was solid in the back row, racking up 10 digs,  and Alexis McDaniel anchored the defense with a team-high 27 digs. The Sugar Bears' blocking game came through as well, with Allison Holloway leading the team with 7 blocks, while Greyson Button and Regan Harp added 4 blocks each.

The Sugar Bears took the first set convincingly, 25-18, controlling the tempo and capitalizing on Eastern Kentucky's errors. Despite dropping the second set 19-25, Central Arkansas bounced back in the third set with a strong offensive showing, hitting .306 to claim the set 25-20. The fourth set was a tight battle, but the Sugar Bears came out on top 25-23 to seal the victory.

Eastern Kentucky was led by Sarah Mitchell, who tallied 16 kills, while AG Vandagriff added 10 kills, and Carson Ledford contributed 5 blocks. Despite the Colonels' efforts, Central Arkansas' balanced attack and timely defense were too much to overcome.

With this win, the Sugar Bears continue their impressive ASUN campaign and look forward to their next challenge on the road in Clarksville, Tennessee against Austin Peay, October 11th at 6 p.m.
