Sugar Bears Sweep Austin Peay to Extend Winning Streak

The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears extended their winning streak to seven with a dominant 3-0 sweep over the Austin Peay Governors in ASUN Conference action on Friday night. Playing at the Winfield Dunn Center in Clarksville, Tennessee, the Sugar Bears controlled the match from start to finish, winning 25-23, 25-13, and 25-19.

Laci Bohannan delivered a standout performance for Central Arkansas, recording 18 kills on a blistering .457 hitting percentage, while also contributing 7 digs and an ace, totaling 20 points while also reaching 500 kills within the first set. Teammate Allison Holloway also shined, hitting .455 with 6 kills and adding a solo block, while Caylan Koons facilitated the offense with 41 assists and 5 digs.

Central Arkansas (8-8, 5-0 ASUN) was efficient, posting a .398 hitting percentage, with their attack particularly sharp in the second set, where they hit .607 as a team. Regan Harp chipped in 10 kills and 13 digs, giving the Sugar Bears a balanced attack that Austin Peay struggled to contain.

For the Governors (1-15, 0-5 ASUN), Sarah Carnathan led the offense with 9 kills and added 7 digs, while Gabriella MacKenzie contributed 9 kills of her own. However, Austin Peay could only muster a .130 hitting percentage, with too many errors, particularly in the third set, where they hit just .028.

The first set was the most competitive, with six tie scores and four lead changes. Austin Peay held their ground early but couldn't capitalize on key moments as Central Arkansas pulled away late to claim a 25-23 win. The second set saw the Sugar Bears dominate, allowing just 13 points, and they closed the match with a 25-19 victory in the third.

Central Arkansas continues to roll through conference play, with a perfect 5-0 ASUN record. They will look to maintain their momentum as they play tomorrow against Lipscomb in Nashville, Tennessee at 6 p.m.
