ATLANTA, Ga. – A dominant week for the Central Arkansas softball team was justly rewarded, as
Kayla Beaver was named the ASUN Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season, the conference announced.
Beaver earned the nod after tossing two shutouts, including one against No. 11 Arkansas last Tuesday. The redshirt junior threw the complete game against the Razorbacks, striking out eight without walking a single batter. She also allowed just five hits to the SEC team, dicing up Arkansas with only 104 pitches.
It marked the first home win against Arkansas in program history, and when combined with
Jordan Johnson's earlier victory over the Hogs, gave the Bears the first sweep over the Razorbacks ever.
She threw a similarly impressive game against Bellarmine, earning her 16
th win of the season after another shutout. Striking out four, again with zero walks, Beaver pitched the complete game shutout in just 68 pitches, absolutely dominating the Knights and helping the Bears take a firm hold of the top spot in the conference, racking up ASUN wins to the tune of a 14-1 record after five series.
It marks the second Pitcher of the Week award for Beaver this season, who also won the league's first honor of the 2023 season.
This weekend, the Bears will host ASUN foe Liberty, winner of last season's conference tournament. First pitch against the Lady Flames is set for Saturday at 1 p.m., the first of a doubleheader.
