CONWAY, Ark. – Playing the third of three games on the road on Saturday, the Central Arkansas women's basketball team treks down the road from Louisville to face Eastern Kentucky in Richmond, Ky. Playing the Colonels for the second time this season, the Sugar Bears tip-off at Baptist Health Arena at 1 p.m. CT.
The Sugar Bears fell to 8-16 on the year with a 3-10 record in conference after Thursday's loss at Bellarmine. Offense was tough to come by in the first half against the Knights, and the deficit was too large to overcome in the third and fourth quarters.
Kinley Fisher scored 14 points, and
Siera Carter added nine points and seven boards.
Leah Perry checked in for a career-high 31 minutes, keeping her hands active on defense for two steals and two blocks, while pulling down five rebounds.
Fisher and Carter have elevated their games as of late, shouldering more of the load as the season has worn on. In the month of February, Fisher has averaged 10.0 points per game, with three games of double-figure scoring and six three pointers. The sophomore has also increased her time on the ball, resulting in games of four assists against Queens and three more helpers against Bellarmine. Carter has led the team over the last four games in scoring, averaging 12.3 points per game, adding 6.8 boards to her statline over that span as well.
Last time the Colonels and Sugar Bears faced each other, it was Central Arkansas coming out on top, with the last meeting coming this season. Way back on January 7
th, the Sugar Bears ran the Colonels out of the Farris Center 71-57.
Kierra Prim was dominant, scoring 13 points and pulling in 15 rebounds, at the time her fourth double-double of the year.
Eastern Kentucky hosts the Sugar Bears with a 15-12 record, holding an 8-6 ASUN slate. Currently on a two-game winning streak, the Colonels have some momentum behind them after wins over Jacksonville State and North Alabama. Taming the Lions at home on Thursday, four Colonels scored in double-figures, and Eastern Kentucky took advantage of a 19-8 advantage at the free throw line to walk away with a 76-63 win.
Antwainette Walker continues to lead the Colonels in scoring as the regular season approaches its zenith, averaging 20.3 points per game in ASUN contests. The redshirt senior also leads the team in rebounding (9.1 rpg) and steals (27) in league play, while also shooting 82.5 percent from the free throw line. Walker has scored in double-figures in every game this season, with a season-high 33 against Austin Peay.
Saturday's game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. CT tip, as the Sugar Bears look to get back into the driver's seat and finish the sweep of the Colonels. The game will be broadcast on
