Quick Turnaround for Sugar Bears; Off to North Alabama on Monday

CONWAY, Ark. – Fresh off one of their best performances of the season, the Sugar Bears hit the road for a three-game swing, hoping to take some of the momentum gained over the weekend into the next three games. First up on the docket is a rescheduled game against North Alabama. Tip-off against the Lions is set for 3 p.m. at CB&S Bank Arena at Flowers Hall.

The Sugar Bears (8-14, 3-8 ASUN) put together one of the most complete games of the season on Saturday, dominating Queens to the tune of 30 points. Randrea Wright matched a season-high with 20 points, Kierra Prim logged another double-double with 14 points and 10 boards, with Kinley Fisher and Gloria Fornah also reaching double-digits in the win. On the defensive side, Central Arkansas held the Royals to 21 percent shooting, including a 7-for-42 showing inside the three-point line.

With the outburst of scoring, Wright now averages 12 points per game in conference, hitting double-figures for the seventh time in ASUN play. Hitting all six free throws against the Royals, the sophomore guard is now shooting 88.9 percent from the charity stripe, leading the league during conference games. Wright has also been great at choosing her spots from deep; although shooting just one per game, on average, she's connected on six of her 11 from downtown, a 54.5 percent clip.

Monday's game marks the third in five days for the Sugar Bears, who will play again on Thursday and Saturday of this week. Last season, Central Arkansas and North Alabama split the season series, each team taking the home game of the split. In two games against the Lions, Wright averaged 8.0 points and 4.5 assists.

North Alabama (9-13, 4-7 ASUN) ended up on the wrong side of their last matchup, falling to Liberty on Saturday. The 67-57 final score came after an 11-point swing for Liberty in the fourth quarter, after the Lions entered the final period leading by one. Two Lions finished in double-figures, and point guard Hina Suzuki had nine points and 11 assists, her game of double-digit assists on the year.

Suzuki leads the team in scoring (11.4 ppg), free throws (45) and assists (122). Among ASUN players, she is second in the league in assists and third in assist-to-turnover ratio, orchestrating the fifth-highest scoring offense in the ASUN. She is flanked by last season's ASUN Freshman of the Year, Skyler Gill. Also winning Co-Defensive Player of the Year as a true freshman, Gill again leads the Lions in steals (32) and blocks (59), while averaging 10.8 points and 7.7 boards per game.

Monday's game is set for a 3 p.m. tip-off in Florence, Ala. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+, with live stats available here. As always, fans can tune into the action at 91.3 The Bear, with Steve Owens on the call.
