CONWAY, Ark. – At home once more this weekend, the Central Arkansas women's basketball team prepares to face another newcomer to the ASUN, this time taking on Queens University on Saturday. Tipping off at 1 p.m., the Sugar Bears and Royals each take to the court looking to get a leg up in the conference standings as the season enters the final month of play.
Central Arkansas (7-14, 2-8 ASUN) looks to bounce back after falling to Liberty on Thursday. Against the Lady Flames, two Sugar Bears scored in double-figures, with
Randrea Wright netting 11 and
Siera Carter logging 10. It marked the third time in the last four games that Carter has reached double-figures, and the tenth such mark for Wright, who continues to be a strong presence on the court for the Sugar Bears.
The Sugar Bears also welcomed back head coach
Sandra Rushing against the Lady Flames, who rejoined the team after missing seven games dealing with a family medical situation. In her absence, associate head coach
Tiffany Phillips captured a pair of ASUN wins, defeating Eastern Kentucky at home and Kennesaw State on the road.
Saturday's game marks the second of three in five days for Central Arkansas, who plays seven more games before the month of February ends. Following this home game against the Royals, Central Arkansas will take to the road again, playing the first makeup game against North Alabama, starting that two-game series away from the Farris Center.
Queens (8-15, 3-9 ASUN) makes its first trip to Conway on a two-game slide, most recently falling to North Alabama. The 14-point loss mostly came in the third quarter, where the halftime adjustments for the Lions allowed them to outscore the Royals 29-9 in the frame. Kennedy Fuller was the only Royal to reach double-digit scoring, netting 16 points off the bench in the loss. It marked the first game of double-digit scoring for Fuller, who averages 4.2 points per game.
Leading the Royals in scoring this season, the first as a Division I institution, is Adia Brisker, who averages 13.0 points per game. A 5-9 guard, Brisker has lived at the free throw line this year, shooting 103 times from the charity stripe in 23 games. She is also second on the team in rebounding, pulling in 4.8 boards per contest, with a team-best 55 steals to her name as well.
