Bears Set to Face Jacksonville in ASUN Action

CONWAY, Ark. – Continuing a three-game road swing, the Central Arkansas men's soccer team makes its way to Jacksonville, Fla., to take on the Dolphins on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT.

The Bears (2-5-2, 1-1-1 ASUN) looks to rebound after a 6-3 loss to Lipscomb last weekend. Despite the loss, a couple of players were able to check in late and make an impact. After Devonte Richards found the back of the net in the first half, Jackson Dutton scored his first-career goal in the 78th minute before Ignacio Bellina punched one in in the 83rd. The Bears continue to stay in the hunt for a berth in the ASUN Championships, sitting in a tie for third place with a 1-1-1 record.

As the season progresses deeper into conference games, Pietro Fontana continues to lead the Bears with seven goals this year. Richards, who scored his first goal of the season against the Bisons, is second on the team in points with six, holding his one goal and leading the team with four assists. In goal, Connor Wachtel holds a 1.73 goals allowed average, recording 31 saves.

Jacksonville enters the weekend with a very similar record to the Bears, owning a 2-6-3 overall slate with a 0-0-3 start to the conference schedule. Still sprinkling in some nonconference games, the Dolphins lost at South Carolina on Tuesday, falling 1-0 to the Gamecocks. After giving up an 18th minute goal, Jacksonville would take eight more shots as the match progressed, but the Dolphins couldn't find the equalizer, despite taking ten corner kicks.

The Dolphins have struggled to score consistently this season, averaging less than a goal per game. But while the offense hasn't been there, the defense has been great at keeping Jacksonville in matches, allowing just 14 goals in 11 games. Jacksonville has three multigoal scorers, with Olivier Correa, Mason Duval and Carson Wood each scoring twice this season. Twice this season have the Dolphins scored multiple goals in a match, and likewise, only three times have they allowed multiple goals in a match.

As it stands, Jacksonville is in sole possession of sixth place in the ASUN standings, with the Bears in a three-way tie for third. With only eight teams in the conference sponsoring men's soccer, six teams earn spots in the ASUN Championships. With four conference games left on the schedule, a win on the road would go a long way toward clinching.

Kickoff against the Dolphins is set for 6 p.m. CT in Jacksonville. The game will have live stats available online.
