Men's Soccer Hosts North Florida for Senior Day

CONWAY, Ark. – The Central Arkansas men's soccer team hosts North Florida on Saturday, celebrating Senior Day against the Ospreys. Kicking off at noon, the Bears will honor their four seniors prior to the start of the game, celebrating the accomplishments of the class.

The Bears (2-8-4, 1-2-3 ASUN) need to bring their best on Saturday, clinging to a chance to make the ASUN Championship in early November. With just a single game left on the schedule, the Bears are tied for the final spot, with plenty of room to maneuver depending on how the chips fall. But, Central Arkansas hosts the first game of the day, and will have to wait to see the results of the other matches to determine where or if the team will make the tournament. As it stands, the Bears could be anywhere from the four seed to the six, with a slight chance to miss the tournament entirely.

Central Arkansas has tied its last two conference matches, claiming points thanks to a goal in each match from Pietro Fontana. The sophomore forward has 11 goals on the year, including an ASUN-best seven in league games. He ranks 11th in the nation in total goals this season, and has been one of the most effective shooters in the country, holding the fourth-highest shooting accuracy in the country.

In two matches against the Ospreys, the Bears have been successful in both, winning games at each site since joining the league. Last season's 2-0 win was highlighted by the fact that the Ospreys only put one of their eight shots on goal, a look that Zach Schawl was able to stop. The two matches have both unfolded in shutout fashion for the Bears, who have outscored UNF 3-0 over the two games.

The Bears honor four seniors on Saturday: Jerry Gutierrez, Ben Hughes, Deon Travis and Schawl. Over five years, this group has come together and helped the Bears make back-to-back ASUN Championship finals. This group has been together for some of head coach Frank Kohlenstein's biggest moments, and have played some of the juggernauts of college soccer in their careers.

North Florida (3-7-4, 0-5-1) is the only team mathematically eliminated from ASUN contention, having struggled all season to notch conference wins. But every loss in conference was by one goal, with the Ospreys never allowing more than two goals, but also never scoring more than once.

Through 14 matches, the Ospreys' leading scorers are Joaquin Acuna, who has four goals and three assists this year, and Luc Granitur, who has five goals and one assist. Acuna has one more assist in conference games, making him the team's point leader in ASUN contests. But the duo is also responsible for all four of the scores in conference matches.

Senior day will take place prior to the noon kickoff against the Ospreys. The match will be streamed on the Bear Nation Network, and live stats will be available online.
