ATLANTA, Ga. – After a career-best 16 points last time out, Parris Atkins has been named the ASUN Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon. Atkins is the second Sugar Bear to claim a weekly award from the conference this season.
 
The nod comes after a stellar performance off the bench by Atkins, who led the team in points and steals against Alabama A&M. With 16 points, Atkins logged her eighth game of double-digit scoring this season, and now leads the team on the year with 10.5 points per game. She also came away with three steals against the Lady Bulldogs, her second-straight game with three swipes and her sixth game with multiple steals.
 
Atkins joins Randrea Wright and Gloria Fornah as Sugar Bears that have won a Freshman of the Week award in their careers; Wright claimed four of the awards, while Fornah was awarded one as well. Atkins also marks the second Central Arkansas player to win any weekly award this season, with Kierra Prim winning two Newcomer of the Week awards to start the season.
 
The Bryant, Ark., native and the Sugar Bears start ASUN play tonight at 5:30 p.m., taking on Jacksonville State at the Farris Center. It marks the start of the second season in the conference for Central Arkansas, who rounded out the year 4-12 in conference play after last season.
