CONWAY, Ark. _ Eastern Kentucky starting pitcher Rese Brown limited the University of Central Arkansas Bears to just two hits Friday night in a complete-game 5-0 shutout in ASUN action at Bear Stadium.
Brown, a sophomore right hander, struck out six and allowed just two singles to improve to 6-3 on the season. The Colonels (34-19, 19-10) finished with 10 hits, including seven extra-base hits and three home runs.
The Bears (24-28, 18-11) fell behind 1-0 in the first inning when EKU shortstop Logan Thomason hit a solo home run. That was all the scoring the Colonels would need to back Brown. The Bears got their first base hit by right fielder
Kolby Johnson in the fourth inning, an infield single. They got their final one in the sixth when senior shortstop R.J. Pearson led off with another single to third base.
UCA, which beat EKU with Pearson's walk-off base hit in the series opener on Thursday night, used four pitchers, with starter
Jesse Barker taking the loss.
The series finale on Saturday has been moved up to 8 a.m. to avoid expected midway thunderstorms. The Bears and Colonels are both still in the running to win the West Division, along with Lipscomb (19-10) and Jacksonville State (18-11). The top three teams from the West automatically make the ASUN Tournament field.
